RACING LEGEND
JOHN SURTEES IN ASSOCIATION WITH BMRC CLASSICS 2012
Sunday 2nd September 2012
The Cricket Pitch, Burpham, Nr. Arundel, West Sussex BN18 9RR
Burpham Motor Racing Club (BMRC) is holding its third Classic Car and Motorbike Show in Burpham near Arundel, West Sussex on Sunday 2nd September 2012. This year, we are proud to announce that John Surtees will be in attendance, and the show will be in support of his charity, The Henry Surtees Foundation. We will be honored with a fly past from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, a Lancaster Bomber, Hurricane and Spitfire.
For this unique event, John & the BMRC will be bringing together a stunning collection of his racing cars and motorbikes to create a special Formula 1 Paddock to celebrate his racing career. Also in paddock we shall have Michael Schumacher's F1 2006 Ferrari show car on display and in addition, members of the public will get the chance to experience the pressure of a timed F1 wheel change in The Pit Stop Challenge, with the fastest change of the day winning a prize. The Vintage Mobile Cinema will also show a marvelous collection of motor films through out the day including a short documentary on John Surtees, and as a special feature, “Dream Rides” offers the public the chance to ride in the car of their dreams on a ten-mile trip in return for a donation to The Henry Surtees Foundation.
Over 200 fabulous classic cars and motorbikes bikes will be on display, from Vintage vehicles from the 30’s to Future Classics. We are also delighted that the Ferrari Owners Cub will be joining us too with a magnificent parade of their super cars. This year we are looking to celebrate a few birthdays too, including Lotus’s 60th anniversary, 40 years of the Sprite, MGB’s 50th anniversary and of course the style icon that is the Cortina! There will also be a collection of historic Police vehicles on display as part of Sussex Police’s Bike Safe initiative. There will be judging and prizes for both cars and motorbikes, in three main classes: Pride of Ownership, the Crème de la Crème, (as close to the original as possible), Spirit, for projects celebrating personal restoration challenges and those that are most used, and finally Best in Show, a special prize where members of the public will vote for their favorite car and motorbike. For those wishing to enter a Classic Car or Bike, Entry Forms can be downloaded from the link: www.thebmrc.com.
Every year we celebrate a decade; this year, the “Festival of the 40’s” will feature a full size Mk 9 Spitfire, (a photo opportunity if ever there was one!), as well as a wonderful collection of military vehicles. Acclaimed dancers “Jive Swing” will be offering free lessons by our Tea Dance Tent, as well as putting on a stunning cabaret of Jitterbug and Lindy hop. Live music will be provided by “The Three Bells”, a 1940s vocal trio inspired by The Andrews Sisters, as well as the legends that are “The Gents”, whilst “Viv the Spiv” will host and compare. And there’s plenty of opportunity to get into that vintage look too with The Vintage Hair Lounge, Eye Spy glasses and the Revival Clothing Company.
We will also have “The Village”, tented marquees and outside pitches, with high quality exhibitors dealing in everything from stunning classic motorbikes to quality car care products, beautiful jewelry to fine country clothing. And our fabulous street food outlets will serve you throughout the day, including Daisy Dukes Airstream Diner, The Well Kneaded Wagon serving delicious pizzas, Forest Hogs the superior hog roast catering company and Daisy, the beautiful vintage ice cream van. Monkshood will provide a range of specialty, selectively sourced gourmet coffee and teas, and also a traditional bar, everything in fact to tickle your taste buds! There’s plenty of activity for the little ones too, including hands on workshops and the “Blackboard Car” – literally a vintage car painted in blackboard paint that children can scrawl on to their hearts content! We shall also feature miniature Dragster racing for kids, and a full size dragster on display from Santa Pod Raceway.
Advance tickets will go on sale soon through www.seetickets.com and the BMRC website at www.thebmrc.com.
