To all at Vanilla Classics,
Re: hire of Cobra 10-12 October & E-Type 12-16 October 2011
Apologies that it has taken us so long to send the feedback form which is enclosed.
We had a really wonderful time which I'm sure Jax can confirm by the HUGE grins on our faces.
Both cars made our week of surprises very special indeed, not least because of the fabulous condition they were both presented in and their faultless mechanical condition which meant that we had virtually no problems.
.......One thing we do know is that we will be back to see you again. We both fancy a day with the Mini Cooper S (I did notice on your website when you click on the More Info button it says it is a convertible!) (Oops! We'll get this changed, 10 out of 10 for observation)
Thank you all for making our week so special. By the end we were both on surprise overload but we were successful in our aim, which was to leave our normal lives behind and live a wonderful dream.
From Jonathan & Gill :)

The MGB Roadster was invited to the wedding of Mr & Mrs Woodley in October. Self-drive hire cars are becoming increasingly popular as people are looking for something a little different to the usual chauffeur drive Bentleys.

We loved the Riley experience! Dad was chuffed to bits and had lots of fun driving it over the weekend. Enclosed is a photo of my dad with the car.
Thanks again for helping us have a wonderful weekend!

Drew and Sophie were married in September and used our 'Froggie' http://www.vanillaclassics.com/car.php?v=29 as their wedding car, despite the fact that the bride has a frog phobia!! As you can see from the photo, this little car is great for weddings and roomy enough to accomodate Sophie's beautiful dress. Very many congratulations to you both!

"OK, now where shall I start! Jax is a pure gem, truly jealous of her office!! From the moment we left the 'office' the smiles never left our faces...she roared through the lanes and purred at the junctions (I assume they are talking about the Jaguar and not Jax...)
We never wanted the day to end and will be planning on the next opportunity to come back...thank you guys for assisting me in giving John the best birthday experience ever...he even said he loved the car nearly as much as me lol...thanks xxx"

"My girlfriend and I borrowed Miss Marple for a few days last week and went across to the Isle of Wight.
All three of us had a wonderful time: the sun was out, the roof was down and the winding backroads were a pleasure to pootle along on.
Driving a car that was more than twice as old as me was a new experience - one that I could certainly get used to.
The service we got at Vanilla Classics was also great. There aren't mounds of paperwork such as you get at a modern car rental firm, and the staff obviously have a passion for what they do. If you have a few days off work you could certainly do worse than taking a Morris Minor out.
We'll certainly be back, unless I can convince my better half that we should adopt our very own Minor on a permanent basis. I am working on it..."

Thank you so much for organising everything for us! Jason LOVED the Healey and we had a superb time driving around the countryside. I will certainly send some pictures in due course.
You have been a pleasure to deal with and made the whole experience easy and exciting for us! We would both have no hesitation in recommending Vanilla Classics to friends and family not only for the lovely selection of beautifully looked after cars but also for your excellent customer service! You have looked after us so well and been so very helpful. Thank you!

The E-Type has been out practically every day over the last few weeks. Paul recently booked the car as his father (AKA 'Happy Pappy'!) was over from France. Judging from this stunning photo it seems a great time was had by all.

The drive home late evening with the roof down was great.
Many thanks, Mike.

"Steve was so happy with his 40th Birthday gift - a day driving his dream car, the AC Cobra. We had a fantastic day driving through Midhurst, Petersfield, Arundel and Bognor! Stopped off for a lovely lunch at The Earl of March in Lavant.
Thank you so much to Claire in the office who was extremely helpful and friendly. Also to Jax for explaining everything when handing the car over to us. And last but not least, Ian who waited patiently when we arrived back a bit late! We would definitely recommend Vanilla Clasics to our friends and family.
Thanks again,"

"1964 Mini Cooper S
I’m not sure that there is more fun to be found on four wheels than in this beautiful 1964 Mini Cooper S. I hired it as a surprise for my wife from www.vanillaclassics.com, check out the rest of their lovely fleet. They’ve got a fantastic set up in the heart of the beautiful Sussex countryside.
Jacqueline later admitted that as we approached Vanilla Classics she thought.. “He’s bought another bike” but she was soon smiling when she saw “Monty”.
This is one of only 963 cars built with the 970cc engine, the first Cooper S, designed by Alec Issigonis and fettled by John Cooper. The car is in remarkable condition for a 47 year old and puts out a healthy 65bhp @ 6500rpm with a heady top speed of 82mph."

Hi Claire,
Please find attached a few pics including your car. I included the one of me in the car purely because before our wedding day i was quite concerned how i'd get in / if i'd fit with my dress!! No problem at all, so thought this may reassure prospective brides too!? I don't know if you remember but we had booked another Etype for our wedding, but it broke down on the thursday before our wedding on the saturday, so finding yours really saved the day AND it was a soft top, which the other wasn't which was a bonus! So many many thanks!
Nicola and Ian Shervell
PS i'm almost certain we won't be in the financial situation to afford it, but if in the future you decided to sell it, please do let us know!

"Please find attached some photos of Emma's Prom. I hope they put as big a smile on your face as your fabulous Rolls Royce did on all of ours.
I know from the way Emma ran out of the house, still in her pyjamas, when I arrived home how thrilled she was to see such a lovely car pull up to take her to her Prom. It was all we could do to persuade her to finish off getting ready.
Without doubt your Rolls Royce was one of the highlights, if not the highlight of Emma's evening.
The Rolls Royce was beautifully presented and prepared, it was everything I expected it to be, if not more. A remarkable feat for a vehicle that is over 30 years old and it is testament to the commitment and care that you obviously take when looking after such a wonderful Car.
I apologise in advance about the quality of the photos, both my wife and I are still coming to terms with the digital camera and I'm sorry that I spelt both your names wrong in the note I left for you, you'll just have to put that down to yet another gaff along with not putting the aerial up on the Rolls and then wondering why the radio wouldn't work ? As my kids would say 'Epic Fail' or ..... Doh !
I hope you receive the photos OK, and explain to Jax that I've now found another reason to put a suit on !
Just leaves me to Thank You ALL so much again for your help, the loan of your Rolls Royce certainly made it a night none of us will ever forget."
Cheers
Piers.

Henry contacted us recently and booked the E-Type Jag for a very special day! We were in on the secret from the start as Henry explained that he was planning on proposing to his girlfriend and needed a cover story. Henry is a professional photographer, and a very good one at that judging from his website http://henry-stuart.co.uk/
So the story was...Henry had been asked by the Spread Eagle Hotel, Midhurst to take some photos and we were supplying a Classic Car in exchange for some shots! Jax stuck to the script beautifully when handing over the car to them, in Henry's words "Thank you so much Jax for making this so special"
'What were the highlights of your Vanilla Classics Experience?" 'She said YES!!'
Congratulations Sue & Henry from the Dream Team at Vanilla Classics!!

Shirley and Nigel had a day out in the Healey and have kindly sent us some great photos and lovely feedback.
"We had a fabulous day - Nigel said it was "..great fun..!" We couldn't have wished for better weather - just as well as I dont think we could have managed putting the roof on and taking it off again!!
Many thanks to Jax for her enthusiastic and friendly greeting and for taking Nigel through the ropes of driving the Austin. At the end of the day, he had a few aches and pains but really appreciated getting back into his car with all its modern labour saving devices. Its what my Dad would have called "proper driving!"
From start to finish, it was an incredible experience and certainly one I would recommend to anyone who will listen. From the initial phone call to ask questions and make the booking, the fantastic idea of producing the mock MOT certificate as the gift ticket, the confirmation email from you and your help when I rang last week about paying the deposit monies, to the welcome on Saturday and the great support available re the AA card etc in the boot (thankfully not needed but comforting to know it was there if we did). Again, feel free to add these comments to any feedback records/guest book you may use."
Best wishes to you all

"Nick Mason, along with luxury car dealers and the designer of the McLaren F1 road car is helping to raise $50 million (£31 million) for the world's first classic car fund.
Mason, the drummer with Pink Floyd and long-term car enthusiast has joined IGA Automobile as they plan to dedicate $150 million to buy new vehicles. The move comes at a time when the market for classic cars has seen a huge increase, as demand for physical assets rises sharply. IGA Automobile noted that auction sales in 1994 were at £30 million, as opposed to the £422 million in 2009.
Former chairman of the British Racing Driver's Club and co founder of IGA Automobile told The Telegraph, "as people get fed up with paper assets they have gone back to physical assets. With emerging nations gaining more wealth there is increasing demand for cars. They are pieces of art."
The Guernsey-registered fund began canvassing investors at the start of the year. "We're looking for a straightforward in-and-out return on our assets," Nick Lancaster, a director of the fund said to Bloomberg, "this is the first classic car fund that's purely for financial returns, rather than passion."
The fund is particular, however, about the kind of people it wants to attract. The minimum investment is $500,000 (£310,000), so the rest of us will have to rely on classic car hire to enjoy the decadence of driving a piece of art."

"Australians with a fascination for British cars and culture are booking holidays to England in their droves, it has been reported.
As a result, vintage car hirehttp://www.vanillaclassics.com/ is on the increase as Aussie car-lovers book trips away to drive classic cars such as Austin Healeys, Jaguars and Rolls Royces around iconic locations of British motorsports - with Goodwood and Silverstone racetrack proving to be popular choices.
Sites of English history such as Glastonbury and Stonehenge are also faring well with the increase of tourism the new trend is providing.
"Many Australians enjoy a fascination for England and English cars in particular," motoring enthusiast John Cruwys told MICE News; calling such holidays "something that many people dream of."
Once it was originally thought that the love affair with classic cars was a quintessentially British trait, but now Australians are proving they have been won over by them too.
Whilst nobody knows exactly what drives this passion, James Bond's influence is said to rank highly.
Matt Thompson, the marketing director of Auto Trader, spoke to The RAC about the rising appeal of classic cars, claiming: "Brits are well known for their love affair with classic cars - but it's still surprising to see such sudden growth, especially at a traditionally quiet time of year for the motor industry."

"One of the most iconic and fantasised about cars on our roads is celebrating its 50th birthday, The Guardian reported.
The classic E-type Jaguar may be half a century young, but, as original test driver Norman Dewis says: "Even today, you take this car out and people will not walk by it. They will always stop and look at it."
In this economic climate, classic car hire<http://www.vanillaclassics.com/> is the more affordable way for motorists to achieve their dream of handling such a desirable car; however back in 1961, the E-type was launched at a "just-about-accessible" price of £2,000 and the public loved it.
Designed by Malcolm Sayer, it was the first car to use large-scale production based on the principles of aircraft engineering. Mr Dewis recalled the shape was due to Sayer's mathematical talent and a ball of wool.
"We did the testing first in the wind tunnel but we found a slight discrepancy between those results and what you get on the road. So we called in at a wool shop on the way to the test track and [stuck] four-inch lengths of wool to the car."
The car is considered such a design classic that it is being exhibited at the Design Museum in London until early March, BBC News reported.
Other celebrations will take place throughout the year, including an event at the Jaguar Exhibition Hall in Coventry on April 2nd."

Rolls Royce's iconic hood ornament, the 'Spirit of Ecstasy', turned one-hundred-years-old recently, and the centenary was commemorated with a nostalgic motor parade in London, Auto Express reported.
One hundred Rolls Royce's of all models and ages were driven through the capital city in a tribute to the mascot. Spectators watched as a Springfield Phantom and Springfield Ghost drove past, joined by Silver Ghosts, Clouds, Shadows, Spurs and contemporary Phantoms.
The route passed through places of significance: Charles Rolls' birthplace in Mayfair, the current Rolls HQ in Berkeley Square, and the site on Brompton Road which is said to be the studio where the Ecstasy was created by sculptor Charles Sykes.
The Spirit of Ecstasy was copyrighted on 6 February, 1911. According to The New York Times, at the time Sykes received the commission, hood ornaments were something that motorists added themselves - often resembling tacky emblems or figurines.
Claude Johnson, the then-chief of Rolls Royce, wanted to stamp out the gaudiness and replace it with something classier. However, founder Henry Royce refused to adorn his car with Ecstasy, and Charles Rolls died before it was created.
Those whose wallets won't quite stretch permanently to a Rolls Royce can join in the celebrations by using a vintage car hire service; which allows drivers to enjoy the inimitable and unforgettable experience of driving the classic cars, without the financial burden that owning one brings.

News that Kate Middleton will be driven to her wedding ceremony not in a traditional horse and carriage, as be-fits a royal bride, but by a car will surely see a surge in wedding car hire.
The future Queen Catherine has opted for a simpler but classic arrival, according to the Daily Mail. An arrival that a senior royal aide has described as "dignified and stately." She and Prince William will return to Buckingham Palace in a glass carriage, enabling them to see and be seen by the thousands of well wishers lining the route.
Speculation is mounting as to the model of the car itself. Some commentators expect Miss Middleton to arrive in a vehicle from among the Queen's extensive fleet of cars. If this is true, Kate will have her pick of eight luxurious Rolls Royce, Bentley and Daimler state limousines.
Kate will be the first Windsor bride in almost half a century to travel to her wedding by car. Palace officials, in The Daily Mirror, deny an allergy to horses prompted the break in tradition.
Could Kate's decision finally mark the decline in popularity of the Cinderella coach as a wedding vehicle, which seems to be falling out of fashion following use by Katie Price, Kath & Kim and appearances on Channel 4's Big Fat Gypsy Weddings?
Classic cars have long been considered a much more elegant mode of transportation and vintage models can inject just as much magic and fairy dust into the proceedings as a pumpkin-style coach. Plus an engine is far more reliable and less likely to make you sneeze than a horse.
For those who want something a little funkier, the VW Campervan is fast becoming a popular alternative.

The MGB Roadster (1973) along with Dougal, (1961 Split Screen Camper Van) went to a Wedding Fayre at the De Vere New Place in Shirrell Heath yesterday. The weather held and there was an excellent turn out.
Both vehicles were greatly admired and gave the future brides and grooms something to mull over - when most people think of a wedding car their first thoughts are of a horse and carriage or chauffeur driven Bentley! How special to be driven on your wedding day by one of your nearest and dearest as opposed to a complete stranger.

What a wonderful day we had, the staff were so friendly, the car was immaculate, and amazingly spacious, with lots of legroom, and it was great to drive along those winding country lanes below Barnham,on the way to the coast. Very cold day, but bright, and the heater works well! Really enjoyed the car. Those A27 roundabouts are rather interesting when you'r next to a huge articulated truck! Thankyou all for a great day out.

Congratulations to Morris Minors everywhere! 0n 3rd January 1961, just over 50 years ago, the millionth car rolled off the production line.
An article in the Daily Telegraph on 03/01/11 stated "In the popular imagination the Morris Minor is the car of schoolmasters, district nurses, midwives, openly Anglican vicars, helpful rural grocers and men wearing hats who are, generally, not in a hurry. If the staid institution of English afternoon tea were motorised, it would look like this."
Our two 'Moggies', Miss Marple and Mr McGuiness, are extremely proud!

Yesterday a party of five came down to Sunny Sussex to experience a wonderful drive around the countryside, taking in some great views before retiring to the Oystercatcher to warm up by the fire and enjoy a feast. They chose the Riley, AC Cobra, Healey, Mercedes and Rolls Royce, an eclectic choice offering a range of driving experiences.

"An absolutely amazing experience. We hired 5 cars in total and so had the opportunity to experience the different drives each car delivers. Going from the Riley to the Cobra was literally Back to the Future! Loved it and will definitely come again. The personnel were also so helpful, informative and really helped to deliver an unforgettable experience." Lucy

Off they set, heading on a circular route through Slindon, Pulborough, Adversane, Petworth, Midhurst, Singleton, Boxgrove and back to VC HQ. The sun was out for a crisp winter drive - brave souls with the roof down on the Cobra and the Riley.

Miss Marple, our Morris Minor convertible dating from 1952 volunteered herself as an auction lot at a fundraising event in Emsworth to help raise money for St Wilfred's Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support. Well done to Dominic for organising the event and we look forward to meeting Richard who placed the winning bid and will be taking Miss Marple out for the day.
"Dear Claire,
I just wanted to take this opportunity once again to thank you for your very kind donation towards the fundraising event in memory of my mother, held at The Brookfield Hotel in Emsworth on November 20th.
The evening was very enjoyable and a great success, largely due to the wonderful prizes donated for the auction and raffle.
The event raised a total of £3,555, which will be very beneficial to these two great charities.
My father and I presented the cheque to Alison Moorey, the chief executive of St Wilfrid's, on Friday, and I just wanted to express our thanks on behalf of these two charities for helping to raise such a significant sum.
Please find attached a photo taken at the Hospice last Friday.
Kind regards.
Dominic"

Thomas and his daughter took the AC Cobra over to the Isle of Wight for a weekend. Thomas rang last week to report that they had both had an absolutely superb weekend, loved every moment and will be back at some time in the future - we look forward to it.

Three of our Camper Vans, the Cobra and the Mercedes are out and about this weekend helping to build very special memories.
Tia doesn't like being left out and really couldn't understand why I was photographing a car and not her!!

The largest motoring garden party in the world - a unique summer weekend that brings together an impossibly heady mix of cars, stars and motor sport 'royalty' to create the largest car culture event in the world! Held in the immaculate grounds of Goodwood House, 12 miles from Vanilla Classics HQ. http://www.goodwood.co.uk/festival-of-speed/welcome.aspx
How about arriving in style in one of our very desirable cars? Or how about treating someone to a voucher as a Christmas present?

What a glorious day for a driving experience in the AC Cobra Replica!
Laura is treating her husband, Craig, to a day out in the Classic Cobra for his birthday. A wonderful gift. They collected the car at 10 o'clock this morning and the sun has been shining the whole time.
Looking forward to hearing about their day when they return at 5pm this afternoon

Mike was the lucky gentleman who won a free weekend in the car of his choice when he visited us at The Goodwood Revival in September. Today he arrived with his wife and daughter to collect the Silver Shadow Rolls Royce (1978) and set off for a regal experience.

And what a laugh we had, hamming it up big time in cravats, hats and purple velvet. An ideal choice to treat the whole family. Read Tim Moore's 'Continental Drifter' for an hilarious (and unerringly accurate) description of what it's like to sit behind the wheel of an old Roller for the first time.

In "Continental Drifter" Tim Moore describes the Silver Shadow like this: "After heaving the door closed with a dungeon clunk, I vaguely centralised myself in the Chesterfield driver's seat and placed my hands at ten-to-two on a Bakelite hoop the diameter of a cartwheel. In front of me yawned a tapering bonnet topped by the Spirit of Ecstacy and flanked by little nascent fins... Behind was a dark and leathery railway compartment, beyond which an enormous boot sloped unhelpfully out of sight". Despite these

Jax took our 1981 MGB GT (youngest vehicle amongst the Classic fleet) out for a wonderful Autumn jaunt around the Sussex countryside this afternoon. They ended up at Lythe Hill, Hotel, Restaurant and Spa which looks very impressive. http://www.lythehill.co.uk/

"So sorry it has taken so long to reply. Many thanks for all your help in making the arrangements for the Jag, Gary had a fabulous day and was absolutely beside himself when he saw the car - I think he was the envy of every man on the street! We had the roof down and cruised all around the South Downs, it was great. The B&B (The Orchard) that was on your list was also excellent and the owner, Mandie booked us in to the Earl of March for dinner so we had a wonderful day and evening! A really memorable trip.
Thanks so much for returning the deposit. We would recommend Vanilla Splits and Classics (and have done so already) to others. We are already contemplating hiring a VW camper for a weekend next year so I am sure we will be in contact again soon."
Best wishes,
Jennie

Just wanted to let you know that we had a fabulous day with the Jag. The weather could have been a little kinder but what the heck we had a great day. To be honest we thought the day was really good value for money and we will be back for more. I think it has got to be the Rolls Royce next time and then we can take our wives on a picnic in style.
Thanks again for a great day and thanks for letting us have the car from 0900.
Regards Peter

Goodwood Revival 2010 was top of our list to be seen at this year. We took 5 of our beautiful classic cars to show off, and WOW, what a busy show we had. The Austin Healey 100/6 and the Riley RMD set the scene, with our cheeky Mini Cooper S and our new Morris Minor Convertible really stealing the show. We also found room to have our 1965 Split Screen Camper, aka Mr McHenry on display.
A lot of work to do, but luckily for us, these fabulous ladies were on hand to keep our stand in tip top shape!

Hailing from an era when British cars had Charisma, Panache, Presence, Inimitable Design and Quality Build.
A driving sensation not to be missed, a passenger's experience to be cherished.
Be good

Goodwood held a race night and celebration evening before the start of the Vintage Festival. We took 4 of our Classic Cars to be admired - they fitted in beautifully with the party atmosphere, especially with so many people dressed up for the occasion.

Hi Vanilla Classics, My wife treated me to a day out with your Sky Blue MGB Roadster, and I would like to say what a great day out it was. The weather wasn't great so we couldn't make the most of the top down, but besides this what a cracking little car! Thought you might like to see a couple of the shots I took of him in a layby on the way to Goodwood. Just click on this http://www.flickr.com/photos/chamberlain_tim/4920822845/ Thanks again for a great day out. Going to go for the Cobra next time. Grrrrrrrrr!!

Mr Colin Hicklin celebrated a very special birthday on 02/05/10. His son, Oli, booked our Jaguar E-Type for him to drive for the day .
The whole family turned up at Goodwood Breakfast Club at 9am - Colin was totally unaware of what was about to happen. His other son phoned him and asked which cars he'd been looking at and proceeded to tell him that the Jag in front of him was his to take away to enjoy! After a quick burst of 'Happy Birthday' and a few tears he set off for what he later described as "The Best Birthday ever!"

What a day! Thanks to Vanilla Classics for making this such a great day.
How often do you get to drive an AC Cobra, and especially around such beautiful countryside as Bosham and the South Downs? I've wanted the chance to do this for years, and to hire such an amazing car as the AC Cobra really was something special. If you only do one thing this year - give yourself a treat and rent a classic car! Thanks Vanilla Classics - good job!
